11/20 points. 2000 Barnwood Sauvignon Blanc. Price $10.25 at The Connoisseur. Very pale straw-yellow in color. The nose is somewhat diluted being mostly lime and wood. The palate follows the nose with the addition of grapefruit. Mouthfeel is slightly oily and medium full. This wine finishes with an almost Thompson seedless grapiness and is rather one-dimensional.

15/20 points. 1999 L.A. Cetto, Petite Sirah, Baja California, Mexico. Price $9.33 at The Connoisseur. Yes, you are reading this right, a wine from Mexico. Very dark black-red with a bright red rim. The nose comes across with earth and slight coffee scents. The bouquet consists of more of the same, but shows blackberry and raspberry flavors. Tannins are somewhat drying, but not too bad. The palate has good grip. A good wine for under ten bucks.
