12/20 points. 1999 Chateau Biltmore Cabernet Sauvignon, North Carolina. Price $14.99? (gift). Dark purple-red, the rim fades to a watery rose. There's quite a bit of wood on the nose, but a few more sniffs reveals some cherry, red licorice, and tar. The palate reveals flavors more towards what a cabernet should taste like. Cassis, tobacco, and tomato. Mid-palate is rather hollow making the chalky, drying tannins seem green and rough. The finish is thin and non-descript. The wine is a bit of a disappointment, considering where it comes from. It would have been a better value at half the price.

Just wanted to let everyone know that my reviews have been coming slow as we are having a roof put on our home, along with fixing things inside. My wife is also having problems getting her camera to work with Windows XP Pro.

13/20 points. 1998 B.V. Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. Price $10.99 at Costco. Dark ruby-red in color, it then becomes clear at the rim. Not much to the nose (closed?), it just hints of cassis and oak. The palate is better showing generic berry, cherry, and wood. It becomes slightly hollow mid-palate, and the finish is short and diluted. This is probably due to low levels of tannins and acid that make it feel thin in the mouth. This is another wine that would have been a better deal at the $7.99-$9.99 range.

-5/20 points. 1999 Bogle Petite Sirah California. Price $7.99 at Raleys. No, you're not seeing things, this wine gets minus five points for ripping me off. This did not smell or taste like any Petit Syrah I have ever had. More akin to semi-dry prune juice than anything else. We could not finish the bottle and I would definitely call this plonk. Avoid at all costs.
((( I would like to make a side note regarding this wine after being flooded with email in defense of it. I purchased the same wine elsewhere and decided to give it 8/10. Obviously, the other bottle may have been subjected to heat somewhere in it's past. This other bottle I found was more drinkable, but was still not much of a wine.)))

Well everyone, I am still here. I have had a number of repeat wines lately along with wines so bad that after a long day it's not worth the energy to do a review. I would also like to hear from some of my readers on recent wines they have had. Email me at: wineslob@pacbell.net
