13/20 points. Banfi 1999 Chianti Classico Riserva. Price $11.99 at Costco. Dark almost purple with a nice, bright red rim. The nose brings forward good scents of dark fruits, cherry, and wood. However, in the mouth it falls down slightly. On entry, good flavors of berry and tobacco leaf predominate. The mid-palate becomes rather flat and the finish watery. At $11.99 it is just acceptable and like other wines I've reviewed, would be a better bargain at a lesser price.

17/20 points. 2000 Clos Du Bois, Sonoma County, Pinot Noir. Price $10.99 at Costco. Very clear, dark cherry red. The nose shows off distinct earth, barnyard, and wood scents. On the palate, this wine really shines. Very good flavors of cherry, strawberry, and oak are supported by just right acids. The medium body gives this wine excellent balance considering how difficult Pinot is to work with. This is an amazing wine for the money.

16/20 points. Chandon, Carneros, Blanc De Noirs, Sparkling Wine (non-vintage). Price $11.99 at Costco. Very clear blonde with a slight pinkish tinge. It has a good amount of bubbles, though not quite pinpoint. The nose is very nice with a lot of yeast and a touch of bitter apple. The palate is very clean and crisp with just the right touch of sweetness. The yeast comes through and is then followed by dried cherry cola and hints of raspberry. This would be a very nice choice for Christmas, New Years, or any other time of celebration.

14/20 points. 1999 Parsons Creek Old Vine Zinfandel, California. Price $2.99 at Trader Joe's. Blood red in color. Nice and clear. There's not much of a nose, but the palate makes up for it. Mostly cherry/berry with nice touches of oak. It finishes with earth tones. At under 3 bucks, you can't go wrong with this wine.
